Eastern infectious diseases and travel medicine

Prof Torresi has a long-standing commitment to the practice, teaching and research in infectious diseases. He is an infectious diseases physician and consults in general medicine. His practice encompasses the breadth of clinical infectious diseases in both hospital and community acquired infections and he has a long track record in travel medicine.

Prof Torresi heads a molecular virology research laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute, University of Melbourne. He has been involved in numerous clinical trials in viral hepatitis and virology research, hepatitis B and C pathogenesis, vaccine research and currently leads a program centred on developing COVID vaccines. He has long been involved in the teaching of medical students and medical practitioners in several aspects of infectious diseases, travel and tropical medicine.

Prof Torresi currently sees inpatient consults at Epworth Eastern and Knox private hospitals and consults in the Hepatitis clinic, Austin Hospital. He currently sees outpatients at the Epworth Eastern East Wing Tower.

Dr Ivan Stratov is a founding member of EIDTM who completed his Medical Degree at University of Melbourne in 1989. He then went on to complete a medical mission in 1997 in the Caucasus region and subsequent specialty training in Infectious Diseases in 2001. In 2005 he completed a PhD, focusing on HIV vaccine research and has over 40 scientific and medical publications. Ivan and long standing passion for the provision of medical care to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, as evidence by more than 15 years of experience running a private medical practice in the region.

Ivan currently sees inpatient consults at Knox private hospital, Ringwood private hospital and Mitcham private hospital. He also sees outpatients through the Knox private hospital consulting suites.

Dr Sarah Garner is an Infectious Diseases Physician and Medical Microbiologist, holding dual specialty fellowships as both a physician (FRACP) and pathologist (FRCPA).

Sarah also undertook a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours as part of her undergraduate degrees. In 2022, she completed PhD studies at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research looking at the role of cell death pathways in eradicating the latent reservoir of HIV infection. She works as an Infectious Diseases Physician in Melbourne in both the private and public sectors and also holds a position as a Medical Microbiologist at Austin Health.

Sarah is passionate about integrated care for her patients and working with patients as partners to help manage their health issues. Sarah has helped with development of guidelines of Infectious Diseases management for regional Victorian GPs and holds a Senior Lecturing position with Monash University Rural School teaching undergraduate medical students. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, meditation and yoga.
